The festival opening event of the International Student Film Festival Sehsüchte is to take place on April 23, 2013, on the Rotor Film Babelsberg premises. Apart from numerous guests, filmmakers, sponsors and friends of the festival, event patron Prof. Dr. –Ing Dr.
Sabine Kunst, HFF Vice President Prof. Martin Steyer and more prominent personalities are expected.

This year, the festival managment will present the opening event. After the opening films everyone is invited to celebrate the start of the festivalweek at the HFF Konrad Wolf.

A red, ticking alarm clock, accidental heroes, a song on the radio, and up in the sky, a plan flys to Sweden. Sehsüchte Kids shows different short films thematically or aesthetically linked to the experiences of children.

The prize awardees are to be chosen by the young audience during the festival week itself. The international entries are shown with English subtitles and German live dubbing.

The tours through the university campus and the Babelsberg studios give you a perfect overview of the festival grounds. You will visit the techrooms (sound and montage) outfitted with modern equipment, the cinemas and the student work spaces in the university, as well as learn more about the history and studying at the HFF. On the grounds of the Babelsberg films studies, you will get to see the work stations, artistic workshops, as well as historical studios, and view our large collection of props and costumes. Discover the oldest artistic workshop in the world!

HFF Konrad Wolf Potsdam-Babelsberg has embarked on an exciting journey: it is conducting joint research with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute on ways of film narration in 180° with wave space synthesis sound. At the heart of this project is the first German panorama short film “The Journey of the Imagonauts”. The project is to be presented throug film examples and the 13-minute short film trailer in the 180° StudioLab.
• Participation for this event is limited to 20.

Sehsüchte and the DAAD presents: Connecting Film

“Connecting Film — The International Day”, a joint event between Sehsüchte and the German Academic Exchange Service, is taking place for the first time this year. The idea at the core of this day is to discuss different countries and cultures and international cooperation possibilities. “Connecting Film” is a forum and discussion platform meant to promote film work and
study in an international context.

Festival guests are to hear in a podium discussion on the topic “International Mobility of Film Students and International Co-Production” from well-known speakers from the film industry, who have already produced and supported films on an international level.

Schreibsüchte – Pitch

In Pitch, selected and coming authors present unfilmed ideas for material. After working on the presentation with Kirsten Harder (Instructor for Dramaturgy and Screenplay) on the creative and convincing presentation of their film and series concepts, eight selected authors compete against each other in the final contest. A jury made up of film and television industry experts assesses the concepts in terms of originality and market timing, gives feedback and chooses the winner in the end.

Over 60 story ideas were submitted this year from filmmakers and screenplay students, late career starters and creative laypeople. The winner of Pitch receives a professional material development program of the Skript-Akademie Drehbuch worth 3000 euros. In
addition the winner also gets a license for the Software “DramaQueen Pro” at avalue of 298 Euro.

The Sehsüchte Week concludes with a gala awarding ceremony on Sunday night in Konrad Wolf’s big cinema hall. A total of 16 awards are to be given out to talented, international filmmakers. The total worth of awards to be given out amount to over 50,000 euros. The prominently attended awarding ceremony is to be hosted by Jeannine Michaelsen, best-known for her work as a ZDF
reporter for the European Football Championship in 2012. In addition, she hosts “Joko gegen Klass—Das Duell um die Welt” (Joko against Klaas—The Duel for the World) on the ProSieben channel, as well as “Log-In” and “SportXtreme” on ZDFinfo.
